Should i do "cheer" or not cuz im confuzed!?

okay so today i looked into all the places where i can lear to do all the moves and cles and stuff lik that so i wrote downn all the prices and EVERYTHING possible i even contacted all the poeple and talked to them about it...and i told my dad that i wanted to start taking lessons/going to cles for tumbling and he likedd the idea so when my mom got home i told her and showed her all the info and she said "you should be playing in the game not cheering for it" my parents ARE NOT stricked at all so im lik "well i was going to be on the travling team its not for school or anything" and i told her that our neighbor/friend used to cheer and this is what she said "well cheerleading then was alot different from cheer now" and i no she thinks lik short skirts sluty peoople ETC so should i just convince my dad to talk her into it? sorry for this being so long
