I'd rather build my own snake terrarium ?

I have a 3 year old 90% diamond coastal carpet python. She's in a 40 gallon tank right nowso I'm planning on building her something bigger and roomier. So should I build more for height ? Depth ? or just for sheer size ? I'd rather have something like a tree or perch in it. She'd appreciate a tree right ?
