Linoleum floor?

I am renting my house and it has decent looking linoleum flooring in the kitchen and bathroom areas. However, it has a very yellowy look to it and i know under it must be white because I accidently sprayed oven cleaner on it and when I wiped it up there was this white floor under. How can I remove what appears to be years of wax? How long will it take?
